Lingua

languages · community · growth

Apps can teach you the words. We give you people to actually use them with.

Why Lingua

Learning alone only gets you so far

You can drill vocabulary at 11pm in bed. What you can't do alone is have an actual conversation, stumble through a sentence, get corrected by someone patient, laugh at your own mistake, and try again. That takes another person, and most learners simply don't have one.

Lingua exists to close that gap in Trinidad. We're a community of learners and native speakers who show up in person to talk — in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Japanese, and whatever else the room is learning.

No perfect grammar required. Just show up and talk.
A typical meetup

Two hours, one language, zero pressure

6:00 PM

Arrive & settle in

Grab a coffee, meet the group. No assigned seats, no test at the door.

6:15 PM

Warm-up round

A quick icebreaker gets everyone speaking in the target language within the first five minutes.

6:30 PM

Table rotations

Move between small groups, loosely gathered by comfort level, each guided by a prompt or a game.

7:45 PM

Wind down

The conversation keeps going over food, in whatever language you feel like using by then.

The exact format shifts meetup to meetup - some are quiet café chats, others are full activity nights.

Every Saturday Sample meetups

What meetups look like

Café Conversation Circles

Small tables, one language each, a stack of prompt cards to get the words moving.

Game Nights

Charades, trivia, and word games, played entirely in different languages

Food & Language Meets

Cook, share, and eat together while the table keeps talking en français, en español, or wherever you land.

All levels, really

Whether you know ten words or ten thousand

Beginners get patient practice partners. Advanced speakers get real conversation instead of textbook drills. Fluent speakers get to mentor and stay sharp.

We meet around the island

Meetups rotate between cafés, community spaces, and the occasional backyard lime, mostly around Port of Spain and nearby. The exact spot goes out to the group ahead of every meetup.
